Dubbed as the “Unmakeable” book, Jonathan Safran Foer latest book Tree of Codes is a print design genius. Foer, who’s best known for his “Everything is Illuminated,” and his collaborators at the Belgian publishing house Die Keure took the pages of another book, Bruno Schulz’s The Street of Crocodiles, and literally carved a brand new story out of them using a die-cut technique making it an interactive paper sculpture.

According to Foer’s publisher Visual Editions, Tree of Codes was turned down by every printer they approached. Fortunately for us, they found Die Keure in Belgium who relished the challenge to prove their competition wrong. Design by Sara de Bondt with cover by gray318. Check out Visual Editions’ flickr stream to see more picture of the book.
Here’s a video of how the printing works and the public reactions of the book.
